As Seasonal Affective Disorder differs from other causes of depression and anxiety treatment must start with looking at the physiological causes. These are covered in my section titled The Body. Once protocols have been put in place to counter the effects of winter on the body we can start looking at other tools to help treat SAD.
In some cases people experience what appears to be SAD but light therapy and vitamin supplementation don’t seem to work. It is possible this means there could be deeper psychological issues with winter. If we have had something terrible happen in our life when the weather was bad we may link winter with bad things happening. If this is the case consulting with a psychologist may be of use.
